Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming education by enabling interdisciplinary learning and redefining how students approach complex tasks. This study employed a qualitative exploratory case study design with four 7th grade students who used ChatGPT to solve geographic and demographic problems requiring mathematical reasoning. Data were collected through chat logs, written responses, and semi-structured interviews. ChatGPT was found to support interdisciplinary learning by offering real-time computational help. Students with stronger critical evaluation skills verified ChatGPT's outputs, while others relied more heavily on them, sometimes accepting inaccuracies. AI tools like ChatGPT can enhance learning when used reflectively. This study advocates for AI literacy in curricula and emphasizes that AI should complement, not replace, human instruction.
