Abstract

Inthisstudyalowcostearthquakewarningsystemhasbeendevelopedthatwilldetectnon-destructiveforeshocks.ThedevelopedsystemisanIOTapplicationwhereobjectscommunicatewitheachother.Arduinomegawasusedasthemicrocontrollerinthesystem.Thepurposeofdevelopingearthquakewarningsystemistoannouncetheinformationaboutthebeginningandendoftheearthquakeattheinstantofearthquakeasatweetintweeterandtogiveaudiblealertforthepersonsintheenvironment.IMUandpiezovibrationsensorswereusedtodetectthevibrationsatthemomentoftheearthquake.Also,ESP8266Wi-Fimodulewasincludedinthesystemforthesystemtoconnecttotheinternet.ThesystemevaluatesthedatafromIMUandvibrationsensorstodetecttheearthquake.ForIMUsensor,dataisevaluatedintwoaxes;namelyxandy.ıfthechangeinx-ory-axisisequaltoorgreaterthan10orthedatafromvibrationsensorisgreaterthan694thentheearthquakewarningsystemistriggered.AsaresultofthistriggeringthesystemconnectstointernetviaWiFimodule,atweetissenttoinformthattheearthquakehasstartedandaudiblealertisgivenlocally.ThingSpeakIoTanalyticsplatformisusedforthesystemtopsendtweet.Whenthesystemistriggered,necessarydataissenttotheThingSpeakplatformandtweetissentthroughthisplatform.Also,system’ssensitivitythresholdvaluescanbechangedandadjusted.Accordingtotheresultsofreal-timeoperation,ithasbeendeterminedthatthedevelopedsystemcandetecttheearthquakesuccessfullyandsensitivelyandprovideaudiblealertandsendtweetforwarning.
