Divan-i hikmat copies at the st. petersburg institute of oriental manuscripts

Abstract

Divan-i Hikmat was written by Pir-i Turkistan Ahmad Yasawi, the mystic poet and founder of the Yasawiyya sect, with the aim of teaching Islam to the Turks. This work is still one of the important sources on the history of thought and wisdom of the Turkic-Islamic world. Researchers such as C. Eraslan, I. Hakkul, N. Hassan and H. Bijeh, made efforts to prepare this valuable work for publication and deliver it to its readers. The present article examines the publications of Divan-i Hikmat in the Turkic World. We seek the answer to the question what handwritten copies are used in these publications. As a result of these studies, it turned out that important manuscripts in St. Petersburg are not used in the popular and scientific-critical publications of Divan-i Hikmat. In order to help researchers prepare a better text for Divan-i Hikmat in the future, we sought to identify and describe the manuscripts of this work, which are protected at the St. Petersburg Institute of Oriental Manuscripts. First of all, in our article, the history of the establishment of the St. Petersburg Institute of Oriental Manuscripts (Asian Museum) was examined. Then, on the basis of the protocols of the Russian Academy of Sciences, it was determined that by what decisions, by what institutions and by whom the manuscripts were delivered from Central Asia and the Volga region to St. Petersburg. At the same time, the main attention was paid to collections containing copies of Divan-i Hikmat brought to the St. Petersburg Institute of Oriental Manuscripts. As a result of our studies, it was found that 23 copies of Divan-i Hikmat are stored in the said institute.

Sufi şair, Yesevîye tarikatının kurucusu, Pîr-i Türkistan Ahmed Yesevi’nin Türklere İslamiyet’i öğretmek amacıyla kaleme aldığı Dîvân-ı Hikmet bu gün de Türk İslam irfan ve düşünce tarihinin önemli kaynakları sırasındadır. K. Eraslan, İ. Hakkul, M. M. Tulum, N. Hasan ve H. Bice gibi araştırmacılar bu kıymetli eseri yayına hazırlayarak okurlarına ulaştırmak için çaba sarf etmişlerdir.Makalemizde ilk önce Divan-ı Hikmet’in Türk Dünyası’ndaki neşirleri değerlendirilmiş, hangi nüshaları esasında yayına hazırlandığı belirlenmiştir. Bu bilgilerden hareketle Divan-ı Hikmet’in St. Petersburg’daki önemli el yazmalarının popüler ve tenkitli metin çalışmalarında kullanılmadığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu sebeple gelecekte Divan-ı Hikmet’in yeni tenkitli metninin hazırlanması veya var olan neşirlerin daha tekmil hale getirilmesine yardımcı olacağı düşüncesiyle St. Petersburg Doğu Yazmaları Enstitüsü’nde korunan el yazmalarının tespit edilmesi ve tanıtılması hedeflenmiştir.Makalemizde ilk önce St. Petersburg Doğu Yazmaları Enstitüsü’nün (Asya Müzesi) kuruluş tarihi gözden geçirilmiş, daha sonra Rusya Bilimler Akademisi tutanaklarından hareketle Orta Asya ve Volga boyundan getirilen el yazması eserlerin hangi kararlarla, hangi kurumlar ve kimler tarafından elde edildiği araştırılmıştır. Ardından da St. Petersburg Doğu Yazmaları Enstitüsü’ne getirilmiş Divan-ı Hikmet nüshalarının bulunduğu koleksiyonlar ve bu koleksiyonlardaki nüshaların değerlendirilmesi üzerine yoğunlaşılmıştır. Yürüttüğümüz araştırmalar sonucunda adı geçen enstitüde Divan-ı Hikmet’in 23 nüshanın muhafaza edildiği tespit edilmiştir.
