For this purpose, three sturgeon species especially i en e el en tae tii, i en e ae ii, and i en e tellat were investigated. Concentrations of certain metals (Cu, Cd, Pb, Zn, Fe, Ni) in gills, liver and muscle samples were examined. Metal concentrations in i en e el en tae tii were; Fe:172.43-196.52 μg g-1, Cd: 0.21-0.33 μg g-1, Cu: 29.65-45.11 μg g-1, Ni: 0.52-0.86 μg g-1, Pb: 14.24-19.63 μg g-1, and Zn: 60.13-88.15 μg g-1. In i en e ae ii, metal concentrations were; Fe: 151.47-182.32 μg g-1, Cd: 0.18-0.36 μg g-1, Cu: 27.17-38.52 μg g-1, Ni: 0.72-0.98 μg g-1, Pb:16.45-25.16 μg g-1, and Zn: 72.14-95.41 μg g-1. Concentrations in i en e tellat were; Fe: 206.39-262.38 μg g-1, Cd: 0.26-0.39 μg g-1, Cu:30.26-55.63 μg g-1, Ni: 0.54-0.87 μg g-1, Pb:14.36-21.51 μg g-1, and Zn: 53.52-82.15 μg g-1. In general, the highest metal levels were found in i en e ae ii. Negative biological effects caused by the presence of various toxicants in fish tissues were studied with bacterial lux-biosensors. These assays revealed that the accumulation of genotoxicants, oxidative stressors, and substances causing damage to proteins and membranes mainly occurred in gills and to a smaller extent in liver. i en e ae ii showed the highest accumulation of toxic substances according to the bacterial luxbiosensor assays.Scopus Bioactive components, sun protective properties, and total phenolic contents of halobacterial extracts(2023-06-01) Kesbiç F.I.; Gültepe N.Halophilic bacteria are microorganism groups with key industrial potential due to their primary and secondary metabolites. In this study, three halophilic bacteria were identified biochemically and phylogenetically, and visualized with advanced imaging systems such as scanning electron and atomic force microscopes. The data obtained identified the following species strains, Salinicoccus roseus strain EMK96, Salinicoccus amylolyticus strain RB5, and Salicola marasensis strain OSK. The industrial potential of halophilic bacteria were identified by investigating the catalase, oxidase, gelatinase, amylase, caseinase, and esterase enzyme activities, and pigments. The sun protection factors, total polyphenol content, and bioactive volatile components were also identified. SPF values and total phenolic content of the extracts obtained from different strains showed significant differences (P < 0.05). The highest SPF and total phenolic content were detected in the second extract of S. roseus (P < 0.05). In addition, bacterioruberin, commonly known as archaeal carotenoid, was also detected in the bacterial strain S. roseus. As a result of qualitative volatile component analysis of bacterial extracts, a total of 108 components were identified from different extracts. This is the first study to determine the sun protection factor, total polyphenol content, and volatile chemical components of these three halophilic bacterial extracts.Scopus C50 carotenoids extracted from Haloterrigena thermotolerans strain K15: antioxidant potential and identification(2022-02-01) Kesbiç F.I.; Gültepe N.Halophilic archaea are one of the microorganism groups that have adapted to living in high saline environments and are important in terms of their potential use in biotechnology industry. One of the most important compounds they have, carotenoid, is used in food, cosmetics, and medical industries. The selected strain was identified as an extremely halophilic and thermophilic archaeon, Haloterrigena thermotolerans K15, based on morphological, biochemical, and physiological evidence as well as 16S rRNA analysis and screened by a scanning electron microscope and an atomic force microscope for the first time. The carotenoid contents of H. thermotolerans K15 isolated from Salt Lake (Tuz Gölü, Turkey) were determined by RP-HPLC–DAD and their isomers were characterized according to UV–Vis spectra by cis peak intensity and spectral fine structure. In addition to all-trans bacterioruberin as a major carotenoid, many isomers of the bacterioruberin such as monoanhydrobacterioruberin and bisanhydrobacterioruberin were also found. The antioxidant activity of carotenoid extract from H. thermotolerans was analyzed by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging method. The carotenoid extract showed antioxidant activity statistically significantly higher than ascorbic acid and butylated hydroxytoluene as reference compounds (p < 0.05). This is the first study about carotenoid characterization and antioxidant activity of H. thermotolerans K15. The obtained results suggest the potential use of H. thermotolerans K15 products as a substitute for synthesized chemical carotenoids and antioxidants.Scopus Carbonic anhydrase activities from the rainbow trout lens correspond to the development of acute gas bubble disease(2011-09-26) Gültepe N.; Ateş O.; Hisar O.; Beydemir S.Dissolved gas supersaturation is hazardous to fish and can result in gas bubble disease (GBD). Signs of GBD typically include bubbles in the eyes, fins, skin, lateral line, and gill filaments. Ocular abnormalities in diseased salmonids typically occur after aberrant gas production in the eyes. In this study, freshwater rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss were exposed experimentally to percent total gas pressure (TGP%) levels of 104% (control) and 115%. No mortalities occurred during the 7-d experimental period. Effects of GBD were observed externally as a darkened skin, exophthalmia, localized hemorrhage in the eye, and gas bubbles on the operculum. Additional signs included increased swimming activity and, more frequently, panic episodes. Carbonic anhydrase (CA) enzyme activities from the lens and retina were determined at days 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 of the study. Venous blood gases were alsomeasured on day 7. Retinal pH did not differ between normal and affected fish, but blood characteristics such as the partial pressure of O 2, partial pressure of CO 2, carboxyhemoglobin level, and bicarbonate ion concentration were significantly elevated in affected fish relative to normal fish. Venous blood pH and oxyhemoglobin levels were not significantly different between affected and normal fish. Patterns of response to total dissolved gas levels differed between the lens and the retina. Mean CA activities in the lenses of fish exposed to a TGP% level of 115% were significantly below those of control fish. However, retinal CA activities did not significantly differ between the two groups over the course of the experiment. These findings show that dissolved gas supersaturation reduces CA activity in the rainbow trout lens. © American Fisheries Society 2011.Scopus Effects of date (Phoenix dactylifera L.) kernel essential oil on growth performance and innate immunoassay in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) juveniles(2021-01-01) Gaballah M.S.M.; Alkhunni S.B.A.; Gültepe N.This study aimed to investigate the effects of date (Phoenix dactylifera L.) kernel essential oil on growth and development performance parameters as well as phagocytic activity, respiratory burst activity, superoxide dismutase, lysozyme activity, and myeloperoxidase activity from immune parameters of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The nutritional study was performed for 45 days to assess the effect of three concentrations (0.5, 1, and 2 mL kg-1) of date kernel essential oil in rainbow trout. β-citronellol, an important compound in many respects, was found 31.70% in date kernel oil. It has been determined that the addition of date kernel essential oil to rainbow trout feed decreases the feed conversion rate, increases the percent body weight gain, and the specific growth rate. It was observed that phagocytic activity, respiratory burst activity, and myeloperoxidase activity values improved in date kernel essential oil added groups, however, superoxide dismutase and lysozyme activity values were not affected. Consequently, date kernel essential oil can be act as a growth promoter, increase innate immunity, and cheap feed additive for the rainbow trout juveniles.Scopus Effects of dietary allspice, Pimenta dioica powder on physiological responses of Oreochromis mossambicus under low pH stress(2015-12-01) Yılmaz S.; Acar Ü.; Kesbiç O.; Gültepe N.; Ergün S.This study investigated the effects of the supplementation with allspice (0, 5, 10, 15, or 20 g kg−1) on the haemato-immunological and biochemical variables in tilapia, Oreochromis mossambicus under acidic stress condition. In a 60-day feeding trial, 15 aquariums (80-L) were stocked with 18 fish (20.05 ± 0.10 g) each. Then, acidic stress was achieved by exposing the sampled fish to acidic water (pH 5.5) for 3 days. Allspice supplementation influenced the haematological indices, serum glucose, protein, globulin and innate immune parameters such as respiratory burst activity, lysozyme, and myeloperoxidase activities. In general, at acidic pH decreased circulating red blood cell numbers (RBC), increased mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and the innate immune parameters were observed. On the other hand, the inclusion of allspice prevented an increase in blood glucose MCV and MCH, decreases in albumin, RBC, lysozyme activity and respiratory burst avtivity. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that allspice supplementation at 10 g kg−1 for 60 days, has adequate beneficial effects on improvement of haemato-immunological and biochemical status of O. mossambicus after stressful management.Scopus Effects of dietary tribulus terrestris extract supplementation on growth, feed utilization, hematological, immunological, and biochemical variables of nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus(2014-01-01) Gültepe N.; Acar U.; Sabri Kesbiç O.; Yilmaz S.; Yildirim O.; Türker A.The present study was conducted for 88 days to evaluate the effect of dietary Tribulus terrestris supplementation on growth performance, feed utilization, and hematological, immunological, and biochemical indices of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. A total of 144 Nile tilapia, average body weight 2.61±0.35 g, were divided into four experimental treatments. There were three replicates of each treatment. Four isonitrogenous (40% CP) and isolipidic (10% CL) experimental diets contained T. terrestris extract at levels of 0, 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg respectively. Growth performance and feed utilization of Nile tilapia were significantly higher (p<0.05) in all treatment groups fed with T.terrestris extract supplemented diets than those fed the control diet. There were no significant differences between body composition of fish (p>0.05). Hematocrit, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), and myeloperoxidase variables were not significantly affected by herb extract (p>0.05). However, mean corpuscular volume (MCV) value and lysozyme activity increased with increasing T. terrestris extract (p<0.05). Serum albumin, total protein, and triglyceride levels were not affected by T. terrestris extract. Serum globulin and glucose levels increased and cholesterol levels decreased in Nile tilapia fed with herbal supplemented diets. The results of the present study suggest that Nile tilapia fed diets containing at least 400 mg/kg T. terrestris extract enhanced growth performance, feed utilization, hematological, immunological, and biochemical indices.Scopus Effects of herbs and spice on health status of tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) challenged with Streptococcus iniae(2014-01-01) Gültepe N.; Bilen S.; Yilmaz S.; Güroy D.; Aydin S.Effects of different herbal extracts on the growth and immune defense of fish were researched in the last decade. The aim of this study was to determine the dietary effects of thyme (Thymus vulgaris), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum) as a feed additive on haematology, innate immune response, and disease resistance of tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus). In total 228 healthy fish tilapia were divided into four groups (57 fish in one group) and fed diets supplemented with thyme, rosemary and fenugreek at levels of 1%, respectively; fish in the control group were fed diet without any spices. Fish were fed ad libitum three times a day for 45 days. All fish of the experimental groups significantly (P < 0.05) enhanced phagocytic activity, haematocrit, white blood cell, red blood cell, neutrophil and monocyte counts in blood. Significant (P < 0.05) increase of plasma myeloperoxidase and lysozyme activity was found in fish receiving a feed supplemented with fenugreek after 30 days. Respiratory burst activity was non-significantly (P > 0.05) changed during the whole experiment. After 45 days of feeding, fish were injected intraperitoneally with 100 μl of Streptococcus iniae (8 × 108 colony forming unit). The cumulative mortality was 22%, 27% and 31% in fish receiving diets supplemented with 1% thyme, rosemary and fenugreek, respectively, compared to 61% mortality in the control group. The results indicate that all three supplements used improved the haematological status, non-specific immune response and disease resistance of tilapia against S. iniae; this is the first similar study.Scopus Effects of potassium dichromate on skin ulcers of musky octopus (Eledone moschata Lamarck, 1799) (Mollusca: Cephalopoda)(2012-01-01) Tanrikul T.T.; Sen H.; Gültepe N.Effects of potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) on skin ulcers upon the mantle tip of musky octopus (Eledone moschata) in controlled conditions were investigated. Therefore, the trials on five octopuses were performed at 0.1, 0.15 and 0.2 gL-1 concentrations of potassium dichromate by bath method. The bath applications were carried out at 20.3 ± 0.1 °C for 1 h day-1 for two days consecutively. The following 10 days, the musky octopuses were observed for cicatrization or any mortality. In the control group, one individual died and it was observed of the skin lesion enlargement in the one individual and cicatrized of skin ulcers in the remainders, but did not like in the disinfected groups. At 0.1, 0.15 and 0.2 gL-1 concentrations of potassium dichromate, cicatrization of skin ulcers upon mantle tip of the musky octopuses in controlled conditions was observed without any mortality.Scopus Effects of prebiotic mannanoligosaccharides (MOS) on histology and biochemical blood parameters of gilthead seabream, Sparus aurata(2014-01-01) Gültepe N.; Kesbiç O.; Acar Ü.; Gökkuş K.; İrşad Gültepe M.; Sönmez A.; Bilen S.; Aydın S.A 90-day growth trial was conducted to determine the effects of prebiotic mannanoligosaccharides (MOS) on the histology and biochemical blood parameters of the gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata). Two experimental diets were formulated to contain MOS (Bio-Mos®) levels of 0 and 2 g/kg. The fish averaging 172.11±13.19 g were reared in six octagonal net cages (763 m3). Fish were fed twice daily to apparent satiation. Individual body weight, weight gain, survival rate and feed conversion rate FCR were measured during the experiment. The treatments produced significant differences in body weight. and weight. gain (p<0.050) but no significant effect on the survival rates and FCR (P>0.05). At the end of the experimental period, biochemical blood parameters were analyzed. Blood urea level was significantly affected in the MOS group (P<0.05). No remarkable alterations in histological examinations were found. This study highlighted the positive effects of prebiotic MOS on protein efficiency and weight gain of gilthead seabream.Scopus Evaluation of dietary protein and lipid requirements of two-banded seabream (Diplodus vulgaris) cultured in a recirculating aquaculture system(2014-01-01) Bulut M.; Yiğit M.; Ergün S.; Kesbiç O.; Acar U.; Gültepe N.; Karga M.; Yılmaz S.; Güroy D.The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of dietary protein and lipid levels on the growth performance and bioeconomic benefits of two-banded seabream (Diplodus vulgaris) juveniles, a candidate species for aquaculture sector. Eight experimental diets were formulated with four protein (50, 45, 40 and 35 %) levels for each of the two lipid levels (15 and 10 %). Triplicate groups of juvenile fish with an average initial body weight of ~3.64 g were reared in a recirculating aquaculture system and hand fed twice a day until satiation for a period of 60 days. In the experiment, no difference in survival rate was found between the different groups. Relative growth rate (RGR), specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and daily feed intake were not significantly affected by increasing protein and/or lipid treatments in this present study. However, the RGR, SGR and FCR values showed slightly better efficiency in the experimental group (35/15) fed with lower protein content (35 %) and higher lipid level (15 %) compared with those fed other diets. According to bioeconomic analyses results, the diet with the 35 % protein and 15 % lipid generated the best profit. The results suggest that two-banded seabream can be accepted as a promising alternative species for the aquaculture industry and optimum growth of two-banded seabream fingerlings can be obtained when they are fed a diet containing 35 % crude protein and 15 % crude lipid. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.Scopus Evaluation of the effects of essential oil extracted from sweet orange peel (Citrus sinensis) on growth rate of tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) and possible disease resistance against Streptococcus iniae(2015-02-01) Acar U.; Kesbiç O.S.; Yilmaz S.; Gültepe N.; Türker A.The study was performed to determine the effect of dietary essential oil (citrus EO) extracted from sweet orange peel (Citrus sinensis) on growth performance, blood parameters and resistance against the Streptococcus iniae in Mozambique tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus). Fish were divided into 4 groups and fed for 90. days with four experimental diets (3 supplemented diets with 0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.5% of citrus EO and a control group). Then the main immune parameters such as lysozyme and myeloperoxidase activity, hematological and biochemical variables (i.e., hemoglobin, hematocrit levels, erythrocyte indices, serum total protein, glucose, albumin, globulin, cholesterol and triglyceride) were investigated. Results of this study showed that for tilapia fed with citrus EO all parameters were significantly higher than the control group. Moreover, addition of citrus EO into diets reduced fish mortality after S. iniae infection. It can be concluded that citrus EO can act as a growth promoter, increase immunity and also improve disease resistance to S. iniae infection in tilapia. Thus it can be used as an antibiotics replacer for controlling diseases in tilapia feed.Scopus Physicochemical water quality of Karabel, Çaltı, and Tohma brooks and blood biochemical parameters of Barbus plebejus fish: assessment of heavy metal concentrations for potential health risks(2021-11-01) Demir T.; Mutlu E.; Aydın S.; Gültepe N.The present study aims to comparatively examine the physical quality parameters of water samples taken from Karabel, Çaltı, and Tohma brooks in Sivas province and the blood biochemical parameters of blood samples of Barbus plebejus fish obtained from these waters. In periods when chemical pollution in water increased and decreased, it was determined that GLU and UA among blood biochemical parameters were significantly affected. Moreover, the potential risk levels of lead (Pb), copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd), and ferrous (Fe) for human health were compared to the international standards. Metal (Fe, Pb, Cu, and Cd) concentrations in the water were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The highest HQingestion values of Cd were found in Brook Çaltı, which were 0.0018 for adults and 0.1980 for children. THQ upper limit set by the United States Environment Protection Agency (USEPA) is < 1. It was determined that HQingestion, HQdermal, and THQ values of all the heavy metals were much lower than this limit. It was concluded that water quality parameters of samples taken from Karabel, Çaltı, and Tohma brooks on monthly basis for 12 months were not higher than the limits and the water qualities of brooks were determined to be “good”.Scopus Preliminary assessment of dietary mannanoligosaccharides on growth performance and health status of gilthead seabream Sparus auratus(2012-09-13) Gültepe N.; Hisar O.; Salnur S.; Hoşsu B.; Tansel Tanrikul T.; Aydin S.A feeding trial was performed to assess the potential beneficial effect of two levels of mannanoligosaccarides (MOS) on the growth performance, feed utilization, hematological parameters, and liver histopathology of gilthead seabream Sparus auratus (also known as gilthead bream). Mannanoligosaccarides were added at the rates of 2 and 4 g/kg to a fish-meal-based control diet, and each diet was given (twice daily [midmorning and midafternoon] to apparent satiation) to triplicate groups of gilthead seabream growers (mean weight = approximately 170 g) in sea cages. The trial lasted 12 weeks, and the average ambient water temperature ranged from 19.6°C to 24.7°C during the experimental period. At the end of the experiment, fish attained market size (350-450 g) and their health status was evaluated by blood analysis and liver histology. There were no differences in survival rates among fish fed experimental diets. However, there were significant improvements in both growth and feed utilization among fish fed diets supplemented with MOS. Hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Ht) levels and erythrocyte, leukocyte, and thrombocyte (Thr) counts were unaffected by any dietary MOS. The levels of Hb (g/dL; mean ± SD) and Ht (%; mean ± SD) were 11.0 ± 2.5 and 45.6 ± 6.7 for the control group, 11.1 ± 1.7 and 39.3 ± 8.0 for the 2-g/kg group, and 11.2 ± 1.9 and 40.2 ± 8.4 for the 4-g/kg group. Themean Thr count ranged from 47.6 to 53.8 × 103/mm3. Despite the apparently higher Thr counts for fish fed diets supplemented with MOS, these differences were not significant. Moreover, no histopathological differences were observed in liver tissue cross sections between control and treatment groups. These results suggest that supplementation of diets withMOS had no significant effects on general fish health. © American Fisheries Society 2011.Scopus Preliminary study for the evaluation of the hematological blood parameters of seabream with machine learning classification methods(2020-01-01) Gültepe Y.; Gültepe N.Fish production becomes more and more critical in the world. The most important parameters in production are health, safety, and economy. As a requirement of the technological age, computer-based applications are utilized in providing all these, for example, artificial neural networks, machine learning, deep learning, …etc. In this study, Random Forest (RF), k-Nearest Neighborhood (k-NN), Naive Bayes (NB), Logistic Regression (LR), Decision Tree (DT) and Support Vector Machines (SVM), were used by Python 3.6 programming language for the evaluating the effects of mannanoligosaccharides with hematological blood parameters. Two diets (0%, and 2‰) prepared for the fish. At the end of 12 months trial period, there were no significant changes in the hematological blood parameters without hematocrit (Hct). Hct decreased significantly in fish fed with 2‰ mannanoligosaccharides. RF, LR, DT, and SVM have the same highest accuracy level with 80 %. However, k-NN and NB have the same lowest accuracy level with 60 %. According to these results, RF, LR, DT, and SVM models can be used as a classification tool between groups. Thus, it might be that the sensitivity level of correctly chosen machine learning applications is higher than statistical analysis.Scopus Pseudomonas elongata infection in scattered mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio): Bacteriology, gross pathology and treatment(2009-11-11) Gültepe N.; Aydin S.Pseudomonas elongata was isolated from naturally infected scattered mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio) and its pathogenicity was tested by intramuscular injection. The infection caused mortality in scattered mirror carp with gross clinical abnormalities such as dark coloured of a location on body surface, cataract in eyes, haemorrhagic damage of liver, irrigation in kidney, anemia, swollen intestine, fins rot and hyperaemia in operculum and skin. Lethal Dose50 (LD50) of Pseudomonas elongata was calculated 2.24×105. No significant difference was obtained among enumered of pathogenic bacteria isolated from gill, liver, kidney tissues and total pathogenic bacteria. Sensitivities of Pseudomonas elongata against 50 chemotherapeutants were tested. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of enrofloxacin and chloramme T to the isolate were calculated 5 mL L-1 and 10 mg L-1, respectively. Best treatment method was no mortality performed with orally enrofloxacin application and chloramme T bath. © Medwell Journals, 2009.Scopus The sexually dimorphic adipose fin is an androgen target tissue in the brown trout (Salmo trutta fario)(2013-04-01) Hisar O.; Sönmez A.Y.; Hisar S.A.; Budak H.; Gültepe N.An investigation has been described on the relationship of body length, age and sex with adipose fin length and the number of androgen receptor (AR)-containing cells in the adipose fin as a secondary sexual characteristic for brown trout (Salmo trutta fario). Firstly, body and adipose fin lengths of 2- to 5-year-old brown trout were measured. Thereafter, these fish were killed by decapitation, then their sexes were determined, and adipose fins were excised. The cellular bases of AR binding activities in the adipose fins were analyzed with an antibody against human/rat AR peptide. Immunocytochemistry and western blotting techniques were performed with this antibody. Analysis of morphological measurements indicated that body length and age had a linear relationship with adipose fin length. The coefficients of determination for the body length and age were 0. 92 and 0. 85 in the male fish and 0. 76 and 0. 73 in the female fish against the adipose fin length, respectively. At 2 years of age, cells in the adipose fin did not exhibit AR immunoreactivity. However, AR-immunopositive cells were abundant in the adipose fin of 3- to 5-year-old fish. Moreover, the number of AR-immunopositive cells was significantly (P < 0. 05) high in males and increased with age. These observations indicate that the adipose fin in the brown trout is a probable target for androgen action and that tissue function or development may to some extent be androgen dependent. In addition, it is likely that such an effect will be mediated by specific androgen receptors. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.Scopus Unrefined Peanut Oil as a Lipid Source in Diets for Juveniles of Two-banded Seabream Diplodus vulgaris(2016-01-02) Kesbiç O.S.; Acar Ü.; Yigit M.; Bulut M.; Gültepe N.; Yilmaz S.A feeding study with Two-banded Seabream Diplodus vulgaris was conducted to determine the effects of replacement of fish oil (FO) by unrefined peanut oil (PO) on growth performance, feed utilization, body composition, fatty acid composition, and serum biochemical and hematological variables. Three isonitrogenous (35.8%) and isoenergetic (21.15 kJ/g) diets were formulated by replacing dietary FO with PO at levels of level 0% (PO0), 50% (PO50), or 100% (PO100). Fish were fed twice a day until satiation for an experimental period of 8 weeks. The best growth performance was observed in fish fed with the PO0 and PO50 diets. A significant increase was observed in hematocrit and mean corpuscular volume levels of fish fed with PO50 diet compared with the other groups. Hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, total protein, albumin, and globulin were not affected by dietary PO treatment and did not differ among experimental groups. The glucose level was highest in the PO100 group. Triglyceride and cholesterol levels were lower in fish fed diets with PO inclusions than in those fed the control diet. The fatty acid composition of fish was significantly affected by the experimental diets. Glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, glutamic pyruvictransaminase, lactate dehydrogenase, and alkaline phosphatase were not affected by dietary PO treatment. The n-3:n-6 ratio in fish fed the PO0 diet was also higher than in fish fed the PO-supplemented diets. The results of the present study showed that FO could be substituted by PO up to 50% in Two-banded Seabream diets without any negative effect on growth performance or serum biochemical and hematological features.
