Scopus Hindgut ciliate diversity of domestic horses in Kastamonu, Turkey and scanning electron micrographs(2021-12-01) Gurelli G.; Aydin H.The hindgut ciliate diversity of domestic horses in Kastamonu, Turkey was investigated; 34 species and 3 morphotypes belonging to 20 genera were identified, but no novel species were detected. For individual domestic horses, the total number of ciliate species per animal ranged from 3.0 to 22.0, with an average of 13.9 ± 7.0 (SD). The average abundance of hindgut ciliates in the 11 domestic horses was 5.6 ± 5.8 × 104 cells mL–1, and the min.-max. values ranged from 1.0 × 104 cells mL–1 to 29.5 × 104 cells mL–1. Except for three individuals, all other domestic horses contained Bundleia postciliata, Polymorphella ampulla, Blepharocorys curvigula, and Spirodinium equi, each with a prevalence of 72.2%, whereas Bundleia inflata, Tetratoxum excavatum m. excavatum, and Tetratoxum parvum m. sulcatum were observed in only one horse, and their prevalence was 9.1%. Scanning electron microscopy images of the following species were analyzed: Paraisotricha colpoidea, P. ampulla, B. postciliata, Bundleia piriformis, Blepharoprosthium pireum, Hemiprorodon gymnoposthium, Holophryoides macrotricha, Holophryoides ovalis, Blepharocorys angusta, B. curvigula, Blepharocorys microcorys, Blepharocorys uncinata, Cycloposthium bipalmatum, Cycloposthium edentatum m. edentatum, Tripalmaria dogieli, S. equi, T. excavatum m. excavatum, Tetratoxum unifasciculatum, Ditoxum funinucleum, Cochliatoxum periachtum, Triadinium caudatum, Circodinium minimum, Gassovskiella galea, and Allantosoma intestinale.Scopus Modeling of environmental effect factor and exergetic sustainability index with cuckoo search algorithm for a business jet(2022-05-30) Oruc R.; Baklacioglu T.; Turan O.; Aydin H.Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to create models that predict exergetic sustainability index (ESI) and environmental effect factor (EEF) values with high accuracy according to various engine parameters. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, models were created to estimate ESI and EEF sustainability parameters in various flight phases for a business jet with a turboprop engine using the cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) method. The database used for modeling includes the various engine parameters (torque, engine airflow, gas generator speed, fuel mass flow, power and air-fuel ratio) obtained by running a business aircraft engine more than once at different settings and the actual ESI and EEF values obtained depending on these parameters. In addition, sensitivity analysis was performed to measure the effect of engine parameters on the models. Finally, the effect of the CSA number of nest (n) parameter on the model accuracy was investigated. Findings: It has been observed that the models predict ESI and EEF values with high accuracy. As a result of the sensitivity analysis, it was seen that the air-fuel ratio had a greater effect on the output parameters. Practical implications: These models are thought to assist in the exergetic environment analysis used to find the greatest losses for turboprop business jets and identify their causes and further improve system performance. Thus, they will be a useful tool to minimize the negative impact of business jet on environmental sustainability. Originality/value: To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study stands out in the literature because it is the first exergo-metaheuristic approach developed with CSA for business aircraft engine; moreover, the data set used consists of real values.Scopus The influence of Gd addition on microstructure and transport properties of Bi-2223(2008-10-01) Terzioglu C.; Aydin H.; Ozturk O.; Bekiroglu E.; Belenli I.We have investigated the effect of addition of Gd in Bi 1.8Pb0.35Sr1.9Ca2.1Cu 3GdxOy superconductor with x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5. The samples were prepared by standard solid-state reaction methods. The investigation consisted of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), de electrical resistivity, hole concentration and transport critical current density measurements. Transport measurements indicated that the superconducting transition temperature, transport critical current density and hole concentration values of the samples strongly depend on the Gd addition. The values of Tc, and Jc of the samples decreased with the increase in Gd addition. When Gd addition ratio was increased, surface morphology and grain connectivity of the samples were observed to degrade from SEM investigations and phase ratio of the high-Tc (Bi-2223) phase to the low-Tc (Bi-2212) phase decreased (XRD measurements). The possible reasons for the observed degradation in superconducting and microstructure properties of Bi-2223 due to Gd addition were discussed. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
