Pubmed Defining the effects of urban expansion on land use/cover change: a case study in Kastamonu, Turkey.(2018-07-07T00:00:00Z) Şen, Gökhan; Güngör, Ersin; Şevik, HakanIn addition to the growing world population, continuous migration from rural areas to city centers leads to rapid population growth in urban centers, bringing with it a change in land use/cover in those areas. This change usually manifests itself as an increase in artificial surfaces and a decrease in agricultural areas and forestlands. However, agricultural areas and forests in the vicinity of city centers contain sensitive ecosystems that require careful monitoring. It is crucial that the impact of population growth in the city centers on these areas is determined. This study aims to determine the changes in the land cover in Kastamonu city center between 1999 and 2014. As part of the study, changes in the population of the city center, as well as in the use of urban spaces within the past 15 years, were investigated to determine how population growth affected land use/cover. Changes in land use/cover were assessed under 12 classes with the use of remote sensing methods on stand-type maps created by the aerial photos. According to the results of the study, a 519.5-ha agricultural area and a 86-ha forest area became artificial surfaces in 1999 and 2014.Item Genetic diversity among populations in Scotch pine (Pinus silvestris L.) seed stands of Western Black Sea Region in Turkey(Genetic diversity among populations in Scotch pine (Pinus silvestris L.) seed stands of Western Black Sea Region in Turkey”, African Journal of Biotechnology Vol. 9(43), pp. 7266-7272, 25 October., 2010) Şevik, Hakan; Ayan, Sezgin; Turna, İbrahim; Yahyaoğlu, ZekiThe aim of this study was to determine the differences among some of the registered seed stands in the Western Black Sea Region in Turkey by means of the morphological characters. The number of 18 morphological characters were designated by measuring and observing on seed (seed length, seed width, seed color and 1000 seed weight), juvenile seedling (root length, hypocothyl length, epycotyl length, cotyledon number, cotyledon length, stem and root dry weight) and seedling (root-collar diameter, number of branches, bud number, stem length, root length, stem and root dry weight) from 9 seed stands in the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey. The obtained data was analyzed by using cluster and penrose analysis. Cluster and penrose analysis showed that there were significant differences within the Pinus sylvestris stands for the morphologic characters.Pubmed Genetic variation in Tertiary relics: The case of eastern-Mediterranean (Pinaceae).(2017-12-01T00:00:00Z) Hrivnák, Matúš; Paule, Ladislav; Krajmerová, Diana; Kulaç, Şemsettin; Şevik, Hakan; Turna, İbrahim; Tvauri, Irina; Gömöry, DušanThe eastern-Mediterranean taxa, which include both widely distributed species and taxa with minuscule ranges, represent a good model to study the impacts of range size and fragmentation on the levels of genetic diversity and differentiation. To assess the patterns of genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships among eastern-Mediterranean taxa, genetic variation was assessed by eight nuclear microsatellite loci in 52 populations of taxa with a focus on those distributed in Turkey and the Caucasus. Both at the population and the taxon level, the subspecies or regional populations of s.l. exhibited generally higher allelic richness, private allelic richness, and expected heterozygosity compared with s.l. Results of both the structure analysis and distance-based approaches showed a strong differentiation of the two subspecies from the rest as well as from each other, whereas the subspecies of were distinct but less differentiated. ABC simulations were run for a set of scenarios of phylogeny and past demographic changes. For . × the simulation gave a poor support for the hypothesis of being a taxon resulting from a past hybridization, the same is true for : both they represent evolutionary branches of .Item Genetik Çeşitliliğin Insitu Korumasında Gen Koruma Ormanları Enstrümanı Ve Türkiye’deki Uygulamalar(XV. Seed Stand Populations in Western Blacksea Region of Turkey by Seedling Morphological Distance(Pak. Journal of Biological Sciences, 8 (11):1548–1552., 2005) Ayan, Sezgin; Şevik, Hakan; Bilr, NebiNine populations of Scots pine, sampled from Western Blacksea Region: were grouped by seedling morphological distance and cluster analysis in this study. For that purpose, number of cotyledon, lengths of cotyledon, epycotyl and hypocotyl and height, root-collar diameter, number of branch, stem and root chy weights were measured on two-month old, and one-year old seedlings chosen randomly. The differences among the populations for the characteristics of one-year old seedlings were larger than two-months old seedlings. For instance, while epycotyl length varied between 11.9 and 15.3 mm (difference was 1 1 0): stem dry weight varied between 164.3 and 256.6 mg (56%) among populations. Morphological distance among populations between 0.297 and 5.288. In addition, populations were gathered two mam groups which are Ankara-Yenice, Kastamonu-Balliclag and Adapazari-Dokurcun and the others and three sub groups according to cluster analysis. Results of the study could be used in breeding and afforestation of the species such as preparation of gene maps, determination of breeding populations, gene conservation areas and seed sources. Anahtar Kelimeler:Geniş yapraklı fidan, TSE (Türk Standartları Enstitüsü), Çıplak köklü, Standart, Kastamonu In this study, the bare root broad leaved seedlings produced in Kastamonu-Gölköy Forest Nursery from 1996 to 2001 were evaluated according to the TSI norms, named “ TS 5624/March 1988 “ Broad Leaved Forest Tree Seedlings” and quality classification was done. Separately, homogeneity and quality continuousness of the produced seedlings were examined. Besides, the effects of producing tecnique on the seedling quality were evaluated. As a result of this study, It was determined that all of the transplant seedlings to be included in first quality class. Whereas, 41.61 %, 11.64 %, 46.75 % of the untransplant seedlings to be included first, second and waste quality classes, sequentially. In respect of these results, transplanting affects the seedling quality in a large proportion. Also, It was determined that homogeneity and quality continuousness were not provided in producing. And, the TSI standards need to be revised.Item THE WOODY TAXA IN THE DIFFERENT RISK CATEGORY IN TURKISH FORESTRY AND CONSERVATION PRACTICES(XIII.World Forestry Congress, CD-Proceedings, 18-23 October 2009, Buenos Aires-Argentina., 2009) Ayan, Sezgin; Sıvacıoğlu, Ahmet; Yiğit, Nurcan; Çelik, Durmuş Ali; Şevik, Hakan; Öztürk, Sevgi
