Scopus A study of some durability properties of mortars with white cement and Portland cement(2017-01-01) Öztürk A.; Kaplan G.Workability, strength and durability are among the most important properties when working with concrete. Increased compressive strength of concrete has favorable impact on durability along with on its several other features. To ensure a high degree of durability, it is essential that clean, sound materials and the lowest possible water content are used in the concrete, together with thorough mixing. Good consolidation during placement of the concrete is important, as are proper curing and protection of the concrete during the early hardening period, which assure favorable conditions of temperature and moisture. Cure concrete properly for a minimum of three days in order to develop good durability. In this study mortars with white cement and Portland cement and different w/c ratios were produced and investigated. The mortars produced were then tested for the impacts of alkali silica reaction (ASR), high temperatures, abrasion and acid effect. Results show that less expansion was measured on the mortars using portland cement while the white cement gave the largest expansions (approximate 0.60%).However, there was no significant difference between cements in terms of their acid resistance. The impact of higher temperatures on mortars produced using white cement was less in comparison with normal Portland cement. Durability tests showed that w/c ratio plays an important role.Scopus Clonal Variation Based on Some Morphological and Micromorphological Characteristics in the Boyabat (Sinop/Turkey) Black Pine (Pinus nigra subsp. pallasiana (Lamb.) Holmboe) Seed Orchard(2023-01-01) Yigit N.; Öztürk A.; Sevik H.; Özel H.B.; Kshkush F.E.R.; Işık B.Scopus Compassionate communication levels of nursing students: Predictive role of empathic skills and nursing communication course(2022-01-01) Öztürk A.; Kaçan H.Purpose: This study aims to determine the compassionate communication levels of nursing students and the predictive roles of empathic skills and nursing communication courses. Design and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 430 nursing students and data were analyzed using a descriptive information form, Compassionate Communication Scale (CCS), and Empathic Skill Scale (ESS). Findings: A positive relationship was found between the students’ ESS and CCS scores (r =.23 p = 0.001). Empathic skills (β = 0.43, p = 0.001), predicted compassionate communication (β = 0.23, p = 0.001), compassionate conversation (β = 0.43, p = 0.001), and compassionate touch (β = 0.18, p = 0.001). Practice Implications: Skills of compassion and empathy positively affect each other; therefore, it is important to adopt strategies that strengthen the empathic skills of nursing students during academic education and to include empathy and compassion in the curriculum.Scopus Cost optimization of mortars containing different pigments and their freeze-thaw resistance properties(2016-01-01) Yildizel S.; Kaplan G.; Öztürk A.Nowadays, it is common to use colored concrete or mortar in prefabricated concrete and reinforced concrete construction elements. Within the scope of this study, colored mortars were obtained with the addition of brown, yellow, black, and red pigments into the white cement. Those mixtures are examined for their compressive strength, unit weight, water absorption, and freeze-thaw resistance. Subsequent to comparison of these properties, a cost optimization has been conducted in order to compare pigment costs. The outcomes showed that the pore structure in architectural mortar applications plays an important role in terms of durability. And cost optimization results show that light colored minerals can be used instead of white cements.Scopus Parental Attitudes and Childhood Traumas as Predictors of Obsessive–Compulsive Symptoms in University Students(2023-03-01) Kaçan H.; Öztürk A.Background: In this study, we aimed to examine the predictive effects of parental attitudes and childhood traumas on obsessive–compulsive symptoms in university students. Methods: This cross-sectional and correlational study was performed with the participation of 780 students. The data collection tools were a “Descriptive Information Form,” the “Padua Inventory,” the “Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-28,” and the “Parental Attitude Scale.” Results: The results of the regression analysis revealed that perceived protective/demanding (ß = 0.959; P < .001) and authoritarian (ß = 0.439; P < .001) parenting attitudes and childhood traumas (emotional neglect ß = 0.905; P = .049; physical abuse ß = 1.464; P = .002; emotional abuse ß = 2.152; P < .001; sexual abuse ß = 0.812; P = .030) constituted a positive and significant predictor of obsessive– compulsive symptoms. Conclusion: Evaluation of parental attitudes and childhood traumas and interventions aimed at predicting the obsessive–compulsive disorder-related consequences of parental attitudes and childhood traumas can help alleviate obsessive–compulsive disorder symptoms. Involving families in treatment approaches such as psychoeducation and psychotherapy for childhood trauma victims with obsessive– compulsive disorder and cooperation with families can positively affect treatment processes. Nurses with the roles of direct care, support, education, and counseling have important standing in running psychoeducation groups. In particular, academic psychiatric nurses can identify risky students and provide counseling and psychoeducation to university students.Scopus Pollen morphology of some Verbascum (Scrophulariaceae) taxa in Turkey(2018-01-09) Öztürk A.; Güney K.B.; Bani B.; Güney K.; Karavelioğullari F.A.; Pinar N.M.; Çeter T.Pollen morphology of six Verbascum (Scrophulariaceae) taxa belonging to five different groups in the genus [V. georgicum (group E), V. nudatum var. nudatum (group F), V. cariense (group F), V. bithynicum (group H), V. pycnostachyum (group K), and V. lasianthum (group L)] was studied. Pollen slides were prepared according to the Woodhouse method and were examined with light-microscopy (LM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). All studied pollen grains are generally monads, though tetrads (5 %) were observed in Verbascum nudatum var. nudatum. Pollen grains of all studied taxa were determined as isopolar and radially symmetric. In general terms, aperture types are trizonocolporate, but also trisyncolpate (V. lasianthum 10 %, V. pycnostachum 1 %, and V. georgicum 4 %) and trizonocolpate (V. cariense 10 %, V. bithynicum 10%, V. lasianthum 90%, V. pycnostachyum 9%, and V. georgicum 96 %) aperture types were observed. The shapes of the pollen grains were determined as prolate, subprolate, prolate-spheroidal and oblate-spheroidal. The sculpture was reticulate in all cases. The results of the study corroborate that morphological features, such as pollen shape, polar axis length (P), equatorial axis length (L), aperture type, surface ornamentation, muri thickness, and lumina shape, show differences which can be taken into consideration in the systematic discrimination within the groups, and also for discrimination of the groups in the genus.
