Abstract

This study primarily focuses on the assessment of the radiological consequences for the public from the use of pulverised coal combustion fly ash in construction sector (cement production) and geotechnical applications (embankments, road pavement and road stabilisation) in Turkey. The results of the activity measurements made on samples of the fly ash and Portland cement incorporating 10%, 20% and 30% by mass of fly ash are presented. The results of the external and internal indices, indoor absorbed gamma dose rate and the corresponding annual effective dose were assessed for the samples and these were examined by comparison with the national and international standards or regulation criteria given for the indoor exposure.
