An Investigation on Startup Ecosystem in Turkey

Abstract

Kelime anlamı başlamak olan ve başarılı bir iş modeli oluşturmak için kurulan bir yapıyı ifade eden start-up’lar ülkemizde de son yıllarda önem kazanan bir kavram halini almaya başlamıştır. Türkiye’de yeni bir kavram olan start-up kavramının henüz Türkçe tam bir karşılığı yoktur. Bu nedenle gerçekleştirilen bilimsel yayın sayısı da oldukça azdır. Bu çalışmanın amacı start-up kavramını daha iyi anlamak ve Türkiye’deki start-up ekosisteminin mevcut durumunu ortaya koymaktır. Bu amaçla Startups.watch ve TC Cumhurbaşkanlığı Yatırım Ofisi’nin hazırladığı raporlar incelenerek Türkiye’deki start-up ekosisteminin durumu ele alınmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda Türkiye’de son yıllarda Teknoloji Geliştirme Bölgeleri’nin (TGB) sayısının arttığı bulunmuştur. Söz konusu TGB’lerin ülkenin tüm bölgelerine yayılmış olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca hızlandırıcı, kuluçka merkezi ve ortak çalışma alanlarının sayısı da hızla artmaya devam etmektedir. Çıkış yapan start-up sayısı ve değeri her geçen yıl artmakta iken melek yatırımcı seviyesinin yeteri düzeyde olmadığı görülmüştür.

The word meaning of start-up is to start a business. The concept of start-up has gained importance in recent years. There is no Turkish equivalent of this concept. Therefore, the number of publications is very low. The aim of this study is to better understand the concept of start-up. Furthermore, the study aims to reveal the current status of the start-up ecosystem in Turkey. In the study, the Technology Development Development Turkey was found to increase the number of regions which are located all over the country. In addition, the number of accelerators, incubation centers and common working areas is rapidly increasing. Exit numbers are also increasing every year. Howver, the number of angel investors is not enough.
