A Review of Factors Affecting the Investment Decisions of Individual Investors: An Application in the Iraqi Stock Exchange

Abstract

Individualinvestors play an important role in capital markets. There are many factorsaffecting the investment decisions of investors. Individual investors are alsoaffected by the decisions of society in which they live. Factors affecting thedecisions of investors have a significant impact on the investment decisionstaken. Thus, behaviors of individual investors should be examined in terms of psychologicaland sociological factors. The purpose of this study is to investigate factorsaffecting the investment decisions of individual investments. In theapplication of the study, data were collected by performing a questionnaire onindividual investors who had invested in the Iraqi Stock Exchange. The data wereinterpreted by using frequency and percentage analyses in the SPSS 22.0program. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that there were manyfactors affecting the investment decisions of individual investors such asrisk, financial crisis, financial information and herd psychology.Bireysel yatırımcılar sermaye piyasalarındaönemli bir role sahiptir. Yatırımcıların yatırım kararlarını etkileyen birçokfaktör vardır. Bireysel yatırımcılar, yaşadıkları toplumun kararlarından daetkilenmektedir. Yatırımcıların kararlarına etki eden faktörler alınan yatırım kararlarıüzerinde önemli bir etkiye sahiptir. Bu nedenle bireysel yatırımcıların davranışlarınınpsikolojik ve sosyolojik faktörler açısından incelenmesi gerekmektedir. Buçalışmanın amacı, bireysel yatırımların yatırım kararları üzerinde etkili olanfaktörleri araştırmaktır. Irak Menkul Kıymetler Borsası`nda yatırım yapanbireysel yatırımcılar üzerinde anket uygulanarak veri toplanmıştır. VerilerSPSS 22,0programında frekans ve yüzde analizlerine tabi tutularak yorumlanmıştır. Analizsonucunda bireysel yatırımcıların yatırım kararlarını etkileyen risk, finansalkriz, finansal bilgi ve sürü psikolojisi gibi birçok faktörün olduğubelirlenmiştir.
