Abstract

Geography-centered reading is an approach in which the space in literary works is examined through descriptions, the author's observations and experiences about geography are conveyed together with the sources that feed his imagination, and the relationship between space and people is discussed from many different angles. Geographical readings, which try to reveal the place of space in our lives, on the one hand show the relations of the components in the fiction with geography, on the other hand, bring a new perspective to text analysis by drawing attention to how geography shapes people's daily lives and habits. Abbas Sayar's novels, which touch on many geographical elements from the climatic features of Central Anatolia to the vegetation, from the settlement pattern, to the population structure, from the traditions and customs of Anatolia to the historical past of the people of the region, provide an opportunity for geography-centered analysis. There are many elements of geography in the novels of the author, which deals with the individual together with the society and nature in which he lives, the living conditions of the Central Anatolian villagers and the economic difficulties they experience due to the continental climate. The aim of this article is to determine the geographical elements in Abbas Sayar's novels and to analyze the function of the data obtained in fiction. In the theoretical framework of the research, which used content analysis as a method, the relationship between geography and literature was mentioned, and information was given about the geography-centered reading method in general, and the obtained data were analyzed by dividing into certain titles/themes. As a result, it has been tried to reveal how geography affects human life physically, economically, sociologically and culturally in the context of the foundations of the fiction.
