Relationship between prospective teachers’ motivation for teaching profession and sense of efficacy

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between prospective teachers’ motivation for teaching profession and sense of efficacy. This is a descriptive research in relational survey model. The participants of the study are 521 prospective teachers at Faculty of Education in Kastamonu University in the 2013-2014 academic years. As data collection instruments, “Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale” and “Teachers’ Motivation for Teaching Profession Scale” were utilized. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression analysis were performed to analyze the data. When the research findings were evaluated, a significant and positive relationship was found between prospective teachers’ motivation for teaching profession and prospective teachers’ sense of efficacy at a moderate level. Prospective teachers’ motivation for teaching profession predicts prospective teachers’ sense of efficacy in a meaningful way. According to the research findings, it can be stated that prospective teachers’ motivation for teaching profession explains 17% of the total variance about prospective teachers’ sense of efficacy.

Bu çalışmanın amacı öğretmen adaylarının özyeterlik algıları ile öğretmenlik mesleğine yönelik motivasyonlarıarasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Araştırma ilişkisel tarama modelinde betimsel bir çalışmadır. Araştırmanınçalışma grubunu 2013-2014 eğitim öğretmen yılında Kastamonu Üniversitesi’nde öğrenim gören 521öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak “Öğretmen Özyeterlik Ölçeği” ile “ÖğretmenlikMesleğine İlişkin Motivasyon Düzeyleri Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi için Pearson Momentler ÇarpımıKorelasyon Katsayısı hesaplanmış ve çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizi uygulanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarıdeğerlendirildiğinde öğretmen adaylarının özyeterlik algıları ile Öğretmenlik mesleğine yönelikmotivasyonları arasında orta düzeyde pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur. öğretmenlik mesleğineilişkin motivasyon öğretmen özyeterliğinin anlamlı bir yordayıcısıdır. Araştırma bulgularına göre, öğretmenözyeterliğine ilişkin toplam varyansın % 17’sinin öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleğine ilişkinmotivasyonları ile açıklandığı söylenebilir.
